January 23rd: Whitney Paints a Picture

To kick off the new server on Livestream, Whitney decided she wanted to do the initial test run by painting a picture she had been working on in watercolors. Over the past couple nights we have done two separate shows, lasting about five hours total. The second half also features some piano playing and general shenanigans throughout. Also, this is the first time we’ve ever drawn naughty bits of the show (Livestream actually allows for R-rated content to be shown, as long as it’s art). I’ll make sure to post a notice before every video where boobs have been shown so that no one is surprised by what is suddenly on their screen.

Note: Tonight’s videos contain drawn nudity and are NSFW.

September 20th: Painting Ademar Pg. 2, Pt. 1

Part one of the painting of the second page of Ademar was done tonight on camera. I managed to get probably halfway through the page in one sitting tonight. It’s going to take a bit longer than the first page took since there’s a bit more detail — as well as multiple panels — but I shouldn’t have any problem getting through at least a couple pages by the end of this week. I doubt I’ll be able to finish all three. We’ll see.

Check out the video after the jump for the painting, a preview of a really awesome dinner, and a bit of piano at the end.

September 10: Whitney Draws, Jonathan Paints

Tonight was a very fun evening. Whitney and I worked together to produce a single piece of artwork: she drew the initial sketch, and I handled the inking and painting. For an upcoming show we plan on switching roles (I’ll draw, and she’ll paint in watercolors). As always, the process was recorded for those who are interested in seeing how it was done and weren’t able to tune in.

July 21st: Finishing the First Page of Ademar

As I had anticipated, I was able to finish painting the entire first page of Ademar in tonight’s session. This means my original estimate of 6-8 hours for the production of a single page of Ademar — from pencils to finished watercolors — was right on the money. If I can keep to this speed for the rest of the pages, I should be able to complete the first issue within two months’ production time (keeping in mind the amount of time I actually have at home — I do have a full-time job, too).

Catch the video from tonight’s session, for those who weren’t able to attend, after the jump.

July 20th, 2010: The Painting of Ademar, Pg. 1, Part 1

Tonight, we begin the painting of the Chronicles of Ademar. The opening page is first on the slab, with the base layers of ink wash being put down before anything else. In two hours, roughly 75% of the washes were finished. I also took the opportunity to turn the session into a tutorial on my methods/approach to painting with ink wash (specifically with the technique I’ll be using to paint Ademar).

Hit the jump to see the video, for those who missed seeing it live. I won’t be scanning this page in until it is complete, so this will be the only way to see the progress at this point:
