Get a Free Cameo in a Peter & Company Page!

If you’ve been watching the past few Inking Room sessions that I’ve done over the past couple weeks, you’ve likely heard how this next page of Peter & Company is going to feature another huge group shot of cameo appearances, much like the massive 20+ character shot from Whitney’s birthday party. Well, the next show is when it’s going to happen, so if you would like to have your character make a free guest appearance in a P&C page, now’s your chance!

The shows this week will take place on the following nights, starting at 8 pm EST:

Tuesday, Feb. 7th – Penciling Peter & Company.
Saturday, Feb. 11th – Inking Peter & Company.

If you want to throw down a character, the rules are the same as last time.

1: The character must be your own independent creation and belong to you. I won’t put someone else’s character in.
2: You must show up to the Livestream feed and, once I say that I’m ready to take the character refs, throw down a link to a piece of artwork featuring the character so I can see how they look.
3: The slots will be offered up on a first-come-first-serve basis. I won’t know exactly how many slots I have available until I have finished laying out the page and do a head count, so if you want to make sure you get a spot, make sure to catch the whole show.
4: I won’t take requests submitted via e-mail, IM’s, notes, or comments on this site. You have to be present at the show in order to give me the character ref. That’s my only requirement.

So yes, spread the word, and make plans to hop over to the Inking Room on Tuesday evening! Thanks to everyone who has been showing up to the streams the past few weeks. It’s absolutely been a blast.

Returning to Action

Yes, it’s been a good number of months since I’ve updated this blog with the recordings from each episode. I’ve done a ton of broadcasts since the last update (about seven months ago), but have not been recording them because Livestream limits the overall number of hours that you can record material.

The good news: Youtube is now allowing for full-length video uploads, so I can now use my old account there as the running archive! From this point on, this site will have new life breathed into it as the central hub of the Inking Room, linking to content hosted on both Livestream and Youtube.

To start things off, here is the first archived video I uploaded to the ‘Tube: my old 2-hour tutorial from Ustream on comic book design and theory.

Stay tuned for more regular updates once again, including an updated Livestream schedule for the week every Sunday evening, just like before!

The Gaming Stream

So over the weekend, I had an idea.

Now that the work room is finally complete and Whitney & I are back in our little art-cave again, I had the desire to get back into some old-school gaming. Since I no longer own any of my older consoles — I had to sell them a good while ago to pay off a chunk of student loans — I decided to jump onto an emulator to play through a few of my old favorite games. The idea hit that I could stream the emulator through the Livestream feed and invite people to just hang out and goof around in the chatroom while the game plays in the background. On Sunday afternoon, I turned on the gaming stream and gave it a test run. About a dozen people showed up to watch the first couple hours of Earthbound, and it was a ton of fun.

Since it was a pretty good success, I figured I’ll do this regularly and use the Inking Room feed to stream old-school games in the early evenings/weekend afternoons. I don’t have any recent PC games (since I’m currently running an 8-year-old Mac), so don’t expect to see any games like Portal or Dragon Age 2 popping up. This will be limited only to classic consoles; nothing more recent than the N64.

I won’t be posting on the official schedule when I plan to run the gaming stream, since it probably will just happen on a whim whenever I feel like jumping on and playing through it a bit. The best way to keep informed of when the stream goes live is to watch my Twitter feed, since I will be posting there as soon as I turn on the Livestream feed for any reason. These shows also won’t be recorded, so you’ll have to catch them live if you want to tune in.

The Inking Room: Now on Livestream!

I have been talking about this upcoming change on the live show for awhile now, but starting today we have finally made the change. It’s official: the live feed has been transferred to its new home on Livestream.

This change was made for the following reasons:

– To allow for better user control options, keeping the chat room free of goofballs.
– To enable streaming of the video feed to iPhones and other mobile devices.
– To enable a 24-hour broadcast of previously-recorded episodes through the feed’s main channel when the show isn’t being broadcast live.
– To improve the overall quality of the stream.
– To allow for content related to more open-minded artistic subjects, i.e. nudity, life drawing, and occasional adult subject matter (Ustream did not allow this at all).

The feed can be viewed on the new channel at Livestream.com, or embedded through this site on the page linked in the left nav bar. All of the old recorded shows currently hosted through Ustream will remain active, but the live feed will no longer be accessible through that channel. All new content from here on out will be hosted and broadcast through Livestream, so be sure to update your bookmarks!

The first Livestream broadcast will be this coming week. Stay tuned for the official schedule that will kick things off.

Holidays are over; back to work!

I hope everyone had a happy holiday season and a Merry Christmas! It was quite a crazy month for Whitney and I, but now that we’re into the new year, it’s time to get these creative gears grinding once again.

There is one big change to the show going on with the shift into 2011, and that can be seen in the above banner: the show is now officially co-hosted by Whitney and myself. She has been participating in the show for a while now — even tackling full hosting duties on her own a few times — so it just didn’t feel right not including her in the title of the site. To reflect this, the show is now just simply called “The Inking Room.”

Unfortunately Whitney is away for the first part of January visiting her family in central Virginia, so I am holding off on turning the camera back on until she returns at the end of this week. That being said, the next show will be on Monday, January 10th. Check the schedule to the right to see what the shows will be about and when they will be airing. I’m keeping the same every-other-day scheduling, with at least three shows minimum each week. Gotta get back into the habit of being regularly creative.

Notice: Holiday Scheduling

Hey folks,

The Christmas holiday season is upon us again, and that means things are starting to get a bit crazy around the house, with family plans, decorating, holiday shopping, etc. As can be expected, this takes up a lot of extra time (and is pretty exhausting overall), so I’m putting up a quick notice that the schedule of broadcasts throughout the month of December will be a bit more sporadic than usual. It’s likely I’ll only have time to do at most two shows a week, which is fewer than usual, but it’s just enough that I can stay busy through the holidays without bogging myself down too much.

So yes, be sure to check the schedule each week throughout the next month to see which days you’d like to tune in. I also understand if people can’t make it to the shows, what with it being the holidays and all, so I will try my best to keep recording each broadcast. Lately UStream has been giving me issues with the recording function (the last couple shows have either been choppy/low-quality, or ended up corrupted and didn’t save at all), but I’ll do my best regardless.

Thanks, everyone! See you all soon.

Break Time: Holding Out for a Few Days

Hey folks!

You probably noticed that there hasn’t been a show in a few days. It’s mostly because this week has been pretty crazy, and with my current plans for the upcoming weekend with family, I likely won’t be able to do the next show until early next week.

So yes, check back Monday morning (Oct. 18th) for the next schedule of shows. I am sorry that I mysteriously vanished after Sunday’s show, but things just haven’t been conducive this week to getting the webcam online.

See you then!

September 16th: Taking a Break for Another Wedding

Hey, folks!

I’m just putting up a quick notice that I’m going to be taking off from doing the show until Monday, Sept. 20th. This weekend is Whitney’s brother’s turn to get married, and we’re taking a drive a few hours south to attend. Since I’ve got to prepare for the weekend trip, I’ll be taking off the next few days to get everything ready to go.

So yes, tune back in Monday night at 8 pm EST to see the next show, where I’ll be starting the painting of the next few pages of Ademar. Have a great weekend!

August 11th: Break Time for Wedding

Hello folks!

I’m putting this up as a quick notice that I’ve had to make a change in the schedule for the Inking Room. Originally I was planning on doing a few final shows before Friday, when I would be taking off for a week and a half until Monday the 23rd, since the 21st is my wedding.

Well, things have been all building up to a head since, well… it’s a week before my wedding, so I have a crap ton of things that need to get done and the stress of it all is just making me ill most of the time. Since I anticipate being unable to find the free time to sit down and draw until after the wedding date, I’m going to have to hold off on this week’s remaining shows as well.

I will return, though, at the same scheduled day — Monday, August 23rd. There will be much to do and talk about once the cam gets turned back on, so you can look forward to the show returning at that point. I know I am! I freakin’ love doing a daily art show. I haven’t been this productive with my own projects in a long time (school projects not included — I mean specifically P&C/Ademar).

So yes, I hope to see you all on the 23rd! Now I’m off to get married.

August 4th: Reshuffling the Schedule due to Sickness

After Monday’s show, things got a little crazy for me and I ended up getting ill over the past 24 hours. It has managed to significantly reduce my strength to the point where I’m going to have to take a couple nights off from the show. Chalk it up to my stress levels getting too high: I’ll be fine once I can take care of some pressing duties (mostly wedding-related, since the big day is now a little over two weeks down the road and everything goes chaotic just beforehand).

As such, I have rearranged some items in the schedule to reflect this. I’ll be doing the pencils for the next page of Peter & Company on Friday, inking it on Saturday, and adding the colors — Yep, this page will be full-color! — in Photoshop on Sunday. Hopefully by Monday I should have my new inking supply in hand to where I can start cranking through the inks for the next three pages of Ademar as well.

Thanks for tuning in, everyone. I’ll see you all on Friday evening.
