October 7th: Character Design and Comic Layout Tips

Tonight’s show was intended to complete the pencils for the next page of Peter & Company. Since I am using a new character in this page (who may or may not only be used for this one page alone), I spent the first half hour of the program dedicated to coming up with his character design. The second part of the program is dedicated to slowly producing the lettering for the comic while fielding viewer questions from the chat room regarding word balloon placement, lettering guides, and general rules of composition for a comic page.

The next scheduled show — this coming Saturday — will instead be completely dedicated to producing the entirety of the artwork for this page. I’ll have to produce both the pencils and inks in one sitting, since I don’t have the option to finish it on Sunday as it is my dad’s birthday and I will be spending the whole day at my parents’ home. I hadn’t remembered the party when I originally laid out the schedule, so I do apologize if this gets a little confusing. If you want to keep up with when the show starts on Saturday, just watch the Twitter and Facebook feeds; they will be updated at the very moment I turn on the camera. I’d like to say I’ll be starting it around 4 or 5 pm EST, but it’s really up in the air at this point. The best way to know for sure is to just watch those feeds for the announcement.

Anywho, hit the jump to view the video.

October 1st: Inking Another Page of Peter & Company

Tonight’s show featured the inking of the next page of Peter & Company, the pencils of which were finished on the previous two shows. I had put a bit more detail into the backgrounds this time, so it took me a little bit longer to get all the inking done than I had anticipated. As such, only five out of the seven panels (about 3/4 of the page) were finished by the end of the show. I’ll be completing the page’s inks first thing with Sunday’s program before I start on the requested tutorials.

September 26th and 29th: Penciling Peter & Company

The past two days’ worth of shows were dedicated to drawing the pencils for the next page of Peter & Company. I originally had hoped to get the whole page done in time for this past Monday’s update, but that didn’t quite work out as well as I’d planned. Instead, I’m going to dedicate time this weekend to inking and make sure to get everything finished in time for this coming Monday’s schedule update. I hate missing weeks of P&C pages.

Also, I’m going to be setting a new schedule for each week of this show’s listed topics. I know I had it listed as a daily show, but realistically speaking I just am not able to keep up a daily broadcast. Since I’ve determined that I usually end up doing about half the shows that I usually plan to do each week, I’m going to try setting the schedule for an every-other-day sort of plan. It will change each week as to which days I end up broadcasting, so always check back here every Monday to see the updated list for the coming topics.

On a sidenote, this is also in anticipation of my working on future pages of The Chronicles of Ademar. Since I don’t plan on publishing the entire issues online, I can use the days off from broadcasting as time to work on the pages without showcasing them to the public. I’ll still do pages for shows down the line as previews of upcoming issues, but I want time off-camera to produce the main bulk of the comic.

Anywho, hit the jump to watch the two videos splitting up the penciling for Peter & Company.

August 28th and 30th: Creating Peter & Company

I’m back from the wedding and completely refreshed! Everything went smoothly and the stress of planning the whole event is now gone. As such, I’ve jumped back into being productive, and spent the past couple nights’ worth of broadcasts producing the next page of Peter and Company.

August 6th: Pencils and Piano

I seem to be playing piano more and more at some point during these web broadcasts. Today I played it a bit to warm up, but didn’t hit the record button until I started up the pencils. However, halfway through my hands needed a quick break, so I hopped back onto the piano, which ended up being recorded. So you get a little bit of it mixed in with the pencils for tonight’s recording.

August 2nd: Piano and Peter & Company

Started off tonight’s show with 45 minutes of piano playing to warm up my hands for the inking. Once that was done, I cranked out the Peter & Company page’s finished inks in about an hour and a half. This marks the first new comic to be published online in almost six months, which is the longest hiatus in the comic’s five-year history. It’s absolutely ridiculous how long it took me to get back up to speed with my drawing abilities after my hospital trip, but I’m just glad that it’s finally over.

August 1st: Penciling Peter & Company

Last night’s show saw the production of the first new page of Peter & Company in over five months. Now that I’m finally back up to speed with my drawing/inking abilities, I’m ready to resume production of the weekly comic. Originally I had hoped to have the entire page completed — penciled and inked — during the course of one show, but the pencils took longer than I had anticipated. As such, I’ll be completing the ink with Monday’s show and posting the page to the site that evening.

July 8th: P&C Cast Page Revamp, Part 5

Tonight’s show marked the continuation of the inking phase for the remaining characters. We managed to get through five of them, with only a few remaining to ink. I should be able to get the rest knocked out in a single show later next week. After that point it’s on to the coloring, and then all that’ll be left is to finish the design of the new page. The finish line is getting closer on this project!

Peter and Seth:

Chelsea and Persephoni:

Ezzy:

Korgar:

The Worms:

As mentioned on the schedule, the show will take a break for the next couple days due to a family birthday I’ll be attending. Stay tuned for Sunday night’s broadcast for the production of page three of the Chronicles of Ademar.

June 29th: P&C Cast Page Revamp, Part 4

With this update, the final sketches for the Cast Page Revamp project are complete and ready to be inked later in the week. In fact, we had so much time left over once the last sketch was done that I took the opportunity to start on the inking phase of the project as well. Looks like things are rolling on right on schedule with how I anticipated!

Dr. Munchkinn, now posing alongside Fritz in his patented drysuit:

Robert and Celine, Peter’s parents:

Inked version of Whitney’s image:

Tomorrow’s show will take a break from this project to start working on something else that is long overdue: the first page of the Chronicles of Ademar. I got big plans for this one.

June 28th: P&C Cast Page Revamp, Part 3

Tonight’s broadcast went into overdrive, with a plethora of doodles and sketches being cranked out in the two-hour time limit. We had a ton of fun with the sheer randomness, particularly when everyone started talking about Portal out of the blue.

Which brought on this:

So yes, onto the character sketches!

Ezzy, playing a certain unnamed dual-screen handheld system:

The worms, hauling around a Trojan Worm for certain ill intent:

Eddy strangling Jeff by his own mailbag strap:

Dr. Victor Munchkinn, in all his eccentric genius:

There are only a few characters left — namely Robert & Celine (Peter’s parents) and Dr. Fritz. These will be drawn with tomorrow night’s show, likely amidst a slew of random off-color sketches.

Oh yes, and to those who tuned in, don’t forget:

See what you miss by not watching the show? ;)
