"The Inking Room" is an online art show hosted on Livestream, specializing in sketched and inked line art, watercolors, ink wash, and occasionally digital mediums. It is hosted by myself and my wife, Whitney.
During the show, we will:
- Draw and ink artwork for my personal comic projects, including Peter and Company, The Chronicles of Ademar, and any other projects I may have on my plate.
- Draw random nonsensical and occasionally off-color sketches as warmups, or just spend the entire two hours doing so if it's "one of those days."
- Listen to music and occasionally sing. You can tell me to stop.
- Request feedback and take requests from the viewing audience via the chatroom.
- Schedule live tutorials of traditional and digital art techniques.
- Try to keep the two hours as entertaining as possible.
I also typically record each show and post the saved video to the blog here after each broadcast. That way those who were unable to attend the show can catch up on what was missed.
Tonight’s Inking Room was a ton of fun. Whitney and I each had our own projects to work on: I was cranking through the P&C pencils for the next page, while she was putting together a new watercolor painting of a new character she came up with.
I also take some time to showcase the Tom & Ed comics, so people can take a closer look at them and see what condition they’re in before I start restoring them. I might do this during a few more shows down the line for the folks who show up in the stream.
This was yet another page of the comic that featured a few cameo slots. There weren’t as many this time as the previous crowd shot, but several of the panels still had spaces available for people to throw in their creations. I was hoping to have the pencils done before this show so I could focus entirely on getting the page inked, but it didn’t work out that way. In fact, I STILL wasn’t done with the pencils by the time this show was done. Man, sometimes my productivity levels just aren’t up to speed, hehe.

inally I get a good recording of the inking of a page. The last time I tried to record the inking phase (for page 174), Livestream corrupted the recorded video and I couldn’t transfer it over to Youtube. Goofy.
So yes, here is the Inking Room recording for this Saturday evening. Because there was so much detail in the 22 characters (yes, 22… I had originally counted 24, but somehow I had miscounted), I wasn’t able to get QUITE through the full page in the two hours. The rest of it I had to finish on my own time.

The title of this post is part 2 of the cameo page, but it’s listed as part three on Youtube because the previous night was split into two videos. Long story short, this page took a WHILE to finish.
So tonight I focused completely on just cranking through the remaining cameos, and managed to completely fill the last few spots. I originally had listed the final head count at 24 other characters, but there are actually 22. Somehow I had miscounted, but it still beats the old record of 20 characters that I had reached with the Whitney’s Birthday Party pages.

Tonight was the first of two nights dedicated to free character cameos in this page of Peter & Company. I advertised this one a bit more heavily than I had for the previous cameo pages (like Whitney’s birthday party), so it had a really awesome turnout. Unfortunately we hit some technical difficulties on the stream, which caused my laptop to go blue-screen halfway through and cut off the recording. As such, it’s uploaded in two parts to Youtube, both of which are embedded below the jump for viewing.
Also, because of the technical hiccups, I was only able to get halfway through the cameo slots that I had allotted for the page. So I decided to add an additional show to this week’s schedule in order to finish out the rest! The final show will be on Thursday, February 9th. Hopefully this will give folks a chance to get their characters in who were unable to attend last night.

Tonight’s episode of the Inking Room focused entirely on drawing the pencils for the next Peter & Company page. I got through about 2/3 of the pencils in the course of two hours, and will finish the rest on my own time before the inking of the page on the next show.
This page also is the latest to feature guest appearances from other artists’ characters. I put out a call in a few online galleries for this purpose; if someone had a character they would like to have a free cameo appearance in a P&C page, they just have to show up to the stream and put a link to their character model sheet in the chat for me to see. I did this previously with the pages for Whitney’s birthday party (and managed to fit over 20 characters into a single panel, which was CRAZY). The page following this features a massive crowd scene, so I’m hoping to get at least somewhat close to that old record.
For about half the time in the video, Whitney is playing Soul Calibur V in the background. Awesome game.

This stream was focused entirely on refining the character designs for the upcoming pilot episode of Peter & Company. In discussing the project with the lead animator for the studio, we realized that the current character models (as they appear in the comic) would be difficult to animate because of their detail. So I decided to use the opportunity to get some feedback from the viewers on how I could streamline the models to make them easier to animate.
Whitney sat next to me for the entire show, playing a demo on the 360 and chatting with the viewers. It was a pretty fun couple of hours.

After a couple weeks of forgetting to hit the “Record” button on the video feed, we’re back!
Tonight’s show centered around the next Peter & Company page (#159) where everything goes terribly wrong for Whitney at her party, and likewise for Peter as well. This whole series of pages has featured cameo appearances of other artists’ characters. I’m really enjoying filling in the crowds with actual pre-existing characters instead of simple cookie-cutter generic designs.

Tonight’s show was pretty interesting.
For this week’s page of Peter & Company, I wanted to have a huge crowd of kids at Whitney’s 13th birthday party, with her surrounded by a group of guys all fawning over her. I really didn’t want to just use general cookie-cutter characters, though, so I thought it would be a cool idea to include the original characters of some of the other artists/fans who follow the comic on FurAffinity. I put out an open invitation in a journal detailing the plan, and when the time came to draw the page, I turned on the feed and let people throw down the reference images for their characters.
The end result was a new record for myself — 20 characters in a single panel — with each one (not counting Peter and Whitney) being an OC from someone on FurAffinity. It’s like an awesome FA version of “Where’s Waldo.”
