inally I get a good recording of the inking of a page. The last time I tried to record the inking phase (for page 174), Livestream corrupted the recorded video and I couldn’t transfer it over to Youtube. Goofy.
So yes, here is the Inking Room recording for this Saturday evening. Because there was so much detail in the 22 characters (yes, 22… I had originally counted 24, but somehow I had miscounted), I wasn’t able to get QUITE through the full page in the two hours. The rest of it I had to finish on my own time.

Strangely enough, in the last show I was completely unable to come up with the dialogue for the last two panels in this page of P&C. The first few moments of this show was spent finally nailing that down and finishing the sketches of the page. The rest was dedicated to inking. Towards the end of this video I attempted to hook up the keyboard to play for a few minutes after getting the inking done, but the cables had become lost during the renovations to the room. Even after finding them and getting it hooked up, the Livestream site decided to cut out and prevent me from recording the broadcast any further. I guess that was the site’s way of telling me to call it a night, hehe.

Tonight’s show featured the inking of the next page of Peter & Company, the pencils of which were finished on the previous two shows. I had put a bit more detail into the backgrounds this time, so it took me a little bit longer to get all the inking done than I had anticipated. As such, only five out of the seven panels (about 3/4 of the page) were finished by the end of the show. I’ll be completing the page’s inks first thing with Sunday’s program before I start on the requested tutorials.

Tonight’s show started off with an hour of messing around on piano, followed by another hour spent finishing the inking of lineart for page four of Ademar. The next step will be to start painting pages 2-4 now that the inking is all done! Sweet.

Tonight was originally scheduled to be a day of drawing pencils for Peter & Company, but I wasn’t happy with the script I had written so I decided to wait until tomorrow. As a last-minute substitution, I opted to finish inking page 3 of Ademar and get about halfway through inking page 4.

Tonight was a very fun evening. Whitney and I worked together to produce a single piece of artwork: she drew the initial sketch, and I handled the inking and painting. For an upcoming show we plan on switching roles (I’ll draw, and she’ll paint in watercolors). As always, the process was recorded for those who are interested in seeing how it was done and weren’t able to tune in.

After taking a week off due to craziness of the holiday weekend and my coming down with a pretty hectic cold, I booted up the cam tonight and got some good time in to resume working on Ademar. I cleaned up a few parts of the pencils that needed fixing and started the inking of page two. The rest of the pages will come over the next few shows. The recorded video from tonight’s session, along with the work-in-progress of the inking, after the jump:

Started off tonight’s show with 45 minutes of piano playing to warm up my hands for the inking. Once that was done, I cranked out the Peter & Company page’s finished inks in about an hour and a half. This marks the first new comic to be published online in almost six months, which is the longest hiatus in the comic’s five-year history. It’s absolutely ridiculous how long it took me to get back up to speed with my drawing abilities after my hospital trip, but I’m just glad that it’s finally over.

The inking of the lineart for the first page of Ademar was split across two separate nights — mostly because Futurama comes on at 10 pm on Thursday, and I ended up starting the show late that night anyway because I got caught in traffic. So I decided to swap out Sunday’s scheduled P&C page with Ademar, since I really want to start painting this first page as soon as possible. Now that it’s complete, I will be updating the schedule so that the first few nights are dedicated solely to painting in ink wash and watercolors.

Tonight’s show marked the continuation of the inking phase for the remaining characters. We managed to get through five of them, with only a few remaining to ink. I should be able to get the rest knocked out in a single show later next week. After that point it’s on to the coloring, and then all that’ll be left is to finish the design of the new page. The finish line is getting closer on this project!

As mentioned on the schedule, the show will take a break for the next couple days due to a family birthday I’ll be attending. Stay tuned for Sunday night’s broadcast for the production of page three of the Chronicles of Ademar.
